Dorothy Max Prior reflects on Catalan street theatre traditions for Total Theatre Magazine

Performing.  31/12/2019

For over 30 years, Total Theatre Magazine has been at the forefront of the advocacy, celebration and documentation of contemporary theatre and performance – including the support of artforms and practices such as circus, outdoor arts, site-responsive performance, puppetry, and physical and visual theatre, which have often been ignored, or not treated with the seriousness they merit, by other publications.

Dorothy Max Prior reflects on the rich tradition of circus, outdoor arts, and site-responsive performance by artists from Catalonia in her article "Homage to Catalonia: Street Theatre Pioneers," published by Total Theatre Magazine. Discussing performances by Kamchàtka, Ada Vilaró, and Els Comediants, among others, Prior investiages the question: what makes Catalan theatre so special?
